Was it just my imagination, or was Mother’s Day advertising a little crazy this year? In the past, I don’t remember nearly so many incessant, relentless ads for diamonds and other extravagant Mother’s Day gifts. Anyway, it was cards and small gifts as usual around the Two Wishes homestead this year. Grandma got a bouquet of button flowers!
You can find instructions to make them at Kiddley.
Kiddley features simple wire stems, but I’ve been adding floral tape and the occasional leaf to mine because I picked up the floral tape for $1 at the Dollar Tree. Floral tape has a bit of adhesive built in, so just give it a slight stretch to release the adhesive, and then wrap it around your wire stems (and wire leaf frames, if you’ve made them).
But looking at the Kiddley photo again, I really like the look of the simple wire stems. May have to make a set of those too. The flowers are so easy to make that it’s tempting to make up vast numbers of bouquets! But I use vintage buttons bought off ebay, so my main challenge is not wanting to use up all the larger vintage buttons (which tend to be pretty cool, and to have use for sewing projects) as the bases. One of these days, I need to get to the sewing store to buy some larger buttons that I’m not afraid to use!
